FAA System Failure Disrupts Flights in U.S.

A technical failure affecting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) systems caused air traffic disruptions across the northeastern United States. Problems with several radio frequencies at the Philadelphia TRACON air traffic control facility prompted temporary flight restrictions at Newark, Philadelphia and Teterboro airports.

The FAA implemented ground stops for some flights at Newark and Philadelphia, while holding patterns and diversions were reported across the region. Flightradar24 data also showed numerous aircraft waiting for departure and some flights diverting to alternative airports. No detailed explanation regarding the cause of the technical failure has yet been released.
